Bernadette started with the firm as a law clerk in 2003, and became an associate attorney in 2004, Senior Counsel in 2011, and Partner in 2014. Bernadette practices general civil litigation in California state and federal court. Her practice areas include contract, business, and construction disputes, as well as general liability, personal injury, insurance coverage, and bad faith litigation. In every practice area, Bernadette is devoted to achieving her clients' objectives and providing efficient and effective legal representation.
Bernadette has successfully represented individuals and entities, including businesses, insurers, contractors, developers, and homeowners, in all types of disputes. For example, Bernadette defended a homeowner in a multi-million dollar personal injury action involving complex coastal engineering, title, and recreational use immunity issues, as the principal associate. Following the trial court's defense favored ruling on a motion Bernadette drafted, the plaintiff compromised his claims, settling for less than one percent of his original demand. Bernadette also defended several individuals and entities in a complex partnership/real estate transaction dispute as the principal associate. After seven weeks in trial, the parties reached a defense favorable settlement valued at less than one percent of plaintiff’s original demand. Bernadette prosecuted a personal injury action on behalf of a minor, which resulted in a six-figure settlement, pre-litigation. These are just a few of the types of matters that Bernadette handles in her diverse practice.
In her spare time, Bernadette is a mentor for young Latino Americans, emphasizing the importance of education. She participates in local charity runs/walks, and enjoys movies, running, and spending time with her family.
